Depression

Amanda Beckner CN, HHP, Ph.D

It is estimated that over 20 million people suffer from depression every year.   This illness affects the body as a whole; moods, thoughts, behaviors,

emotions and the entire nervous system. One main cause of depression
has been linked to food allergy's which in my opinion is caused by
dissimulation of nutrient due to poor diet, stress and or trauma. Too
much sugar, an imbalance of nutrient, and a lack of exercise compounded
by any physical disorder can bring the onset of depression in the form of unipolar and bipolar, which can lead to manic depression. Hypoglycemia,
hormonal changes, and thyroid disorders can also attribute to symptoms
of depression if not treated correctly - all of which are greatly affected by
our diet.  In treating depression, diet is a main distributor.  Foods greatly influence the brains behavior.  Too much of the wrong types of foods can acerbate this condition; where the correct foods in most cases eliminate it completely.

Follow a diet that contains plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, soybeans
and soy products, whole grains, nuts and seeds, brown rice, millet,
legumes, organic turkey, wild salmon and white fish. A diet high in
complex carbohydrates is very important as are foods that contain
tryptophan (e.g., organic turkey and wild salmon).

Avoid foods that contain wheat and gluten, diet soda, artificial sweeteners, fried foods, sugars, alcohol, caffeine, processed foods and high fat foods.
